The Olympus boys golf team took home the first ever state golf championship for the high school.
The 5A state tourney was held at Talons Cove Golf Course in Saratoga Springs on monday oct. 2 and tuesday oct. 3.
On Monday, the Titans battled the cold and wind all day, coming in 3rd place after day one. Zack Neff shot 74 along with Sam Parker 74. John Fox 75 and the Titans had to use Luke Smith’s 85 to come in with a team total of 308. Skyline was day one leader with a 303 and Viewmont 307.
As day two began, the Titans were paired with both Skyline and Viewmont in threesomes. Early on the Titans came out playing well. After the front nine, Zack 33, Sam 35, Johnny 37. The Titans were in great position, but needed a fourth score. So junior, Garret Lindsey began the back nine on fire. He struggled to a 43 on the front nine. Needing a good score, Garret birdied number 15 and 18 to post an impressive 77. Giving the Titans the score they needed.
Coming down the last few holes, it was a 2 team battle with Olympus and Viewmont. Both teams needed to finish strong. Johnny Fox posted a 75, while Sam Parker came in with a 1 under par 71. Coming down to the last hole, Viewmont and Olympus tied for the championship. The number 1 player from Viewmont missed his birdie putt, so Zack Neff had the Championship on his putter. He calmly drained a 20 footer to give the Titans there fist State Title in Boys Golf.
Zack Neff posts a very impressive 67 (-5). To win the individual title as well by 2 shots over Oscar Maxfield from HIghland.
